SCHSA Launches Care-on-Call Smartwatch Integrating Technology and People-centric Services To Improve Quality of Life for the Elderly

After its launch of a new Safety Phone last December, Senior Citizen Home Safety Association ('SCHSA') today unveiled its latest smart wearable device – Care-on-Call Smartwatch (‘Smart-watch’), to be introduced to market tomorrow (18 June 2020). Smartwatch is designed for the more active elderly who lead an independent lifestyle, providing easy access to SCHSA’s 24/7 Care-on-Call Service. Launched in time for Father’s Day, Smartwatch is the perfect gift for family to express their love for their parents or grandparents.

According to a US marketing survey in 2019, 21% of Americans, and 17% of those aged 50+, own smartwatches or fitness trackers. In comparison, only 8% of Hong Kong’s population is reported to use wearable devices. Therefore the market potential for wearable device, especially in the senior market in Hong Kong, is significant.

Ms Christine Fang, Chairperson of SCHSA said: “Today’s watches do not just tell time. The technology is such that they can be used as a communication tool as well as to keep one safe. The Care-on-Call Smartwatch is connected to our Care-on-Call Service platform, leverag-ing the latest technology for next generation people-centric service.”

The Care-on-Call Smartwatch is a watch, a communication device and a location tracker all rolled into one. Weighing at only 50g, the watch can be worn on the wrists or around the neck. Users will enjoy a high degree of mobility and freedom while their family members or caregivers can rest assured they are safeguarded by our 24/7 Care-on-Call Service and our unique vigilance service.

Main features of Care-on-Call Smartwatch:

● One Button / One Press to connect User to Care-on-Call Service Call Centre, providing emergency assistance and integrated care service

● 4 layers of positioning technology (GPS + BDS + WiFi + LBS) for more comprehensive signal coverage. In most locations GPS / BDS and WiFi would be used for positioning. If the user’s location has no WiFi signal or is underground, for example in the MTR, LBS would be used. Our Call Centre operators will be able to track users’ location accurately both indoors and outdoors.

● Users’ location could also be tracked via the Caregiver App, so that caregivers and family can keep track of the whereabouts of active users.

● Protection under SCHSA’s unique Vigilance Service which includes:

● Leave home/ Back home alert’ signals. Caregiver App users can receive notifications when a user leaves or returns home area.

● In emergencies, Smartwatch may be remotely activated for direct communication with our Call Centre operators, who will talk to the user or passers-by to ensure user safety.

● Low battery alert – when Smartwatch’s battery level is under 20%, our Call Centre operators will call the user to remind him/her to charge the watch.

● If a user has not used the Smartwatch for one day, our Call Centre operators will contact the user or his/her family members for safety check.

SCHSA also offers a suite of integrated care services that include social support via phone calls, visits, activities and workshops; health and dietary advice from registered nurses; remind-ers for medicine-taking; escorting services for medical consultations*; and at-home rehabilitation services*. Our team of registered social workers can also provide emotional counselling service to help safeguard the emotional well-being of our users.

Care-on-Call Service, operated by Senior Citizen Home Safety Association ('SCHSA'), is a comprehensive 24/7 support service in Hong Kong, covering emergency aid, integrated care, around-the-clock vigilance service, health management, active ageing services and day-to-day living assistance.

  • Making emergency calls to the Po-lice (999)
  • Arranging for ambulance service
  • Transferring electronic medical records to the A&E services of public hospitals (in collaboration with the Hospital Authority)
