SCHSA collaborates with HKUSZH to introduce Cross-border Call and Care Service in Shenzhen

[31st May 2017, Wednesday] According to figures from the Census and Statistics Department, 20,000 Hong Kong residents aged 65 or above travel across Mainland China daily. Moreover, Shenzhen is the place most visited by Hong Kong residents to the Guangdong Province. In lieu of this, the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association (SCHSA) is introducing its cross-border Call and Care Service to support Hong Kong elderly persons in Shenzhen.

In order to streamline the Service, SCHSA has signed a partnership with the University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital (HKUSZH) for medical services to be provided to Call and Care Service users should the need arise. SCHSA may forward relevant patient information to HKUSZH to facilitate timely response, and will also reach out to the emergency contact of elderly users.

Dr. LAW Chi-kwong, Co-Founder of SCHSA, explains: Over the past 20 years, SCHSA has garnered public recognition for providing the Call and Care Service to the elderly. With its experience, SCHSA hopes to provide support for Hong Kong elderly persons who travel across Mainland China. By partnering with HKUSZH, SCHSA forwards cases to the Hospital should the need arise, so that Hong Kong elderly persons in Shenzhen may receive professional medical service from HKUSZH.

As a landmark policy breakthrough in cross-border health care, HKUSZH became the first health care service provider in Shenzhen to accept Health Care Vouchers issued by the Hong Kong SAR Government on 5th May 2010. Prof. LO Chung-mau, Director of HKUSZH, adds: HKUSZH has acquired substantial experience in treating cross-border Hong Kong elderly persons. Our emergency department, health assessment, Chinese medicine and other specialist services are well received. We have now joined hands with SCHSA to extend the Call and Care Service across the border. We pledge to provide quality medical services to elderly persons from Hong Kong who stay in Shenzhen.

The first phase of cross-border Call and Care Service is provided for Hong Kong elderly persons traveling to or living in Shenzhen. The Service is expected to launch in July 2017. An elderly person who requires assistance may press the Safety Button on their e-Care Link remote to connect to SCHSAs 24-hour Call and Care Centre in Hong Kong.
